UFC 283 results and highlights: Hill dominates Teixeira, doctor stops Figueiredo-Moreno 4

UFC 283 is in the books.

The world-leading MMA promotion made its long-awaited return to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Saturday night with a pay-per-view card headlined by a pair of title fights. In the main event, the vacant light heavyweight strap was on the line as former champion Glover Teixeira took on top-ranked contender Jamahal Hill.

Hill dominated the fight completely pretty much from start to finish, rocking Teixeira on multiple occasions before securing the win by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the bout 50-44 in Hill’s favor.

Afterwards, Teixeira announced his retirement and asked the Brazilian crowd to show his opponent respect before they exited the octagon.

In the co-main event of UFC 283, Brandon Moreno put the Deiveson Figueiredo chapter to bed as he won the fourth fight between the pair by TKO due t0 a doctor stoppage. Moreno shut Figueiredo right eye with a punch to become to score a second win against Figueiredo to become the undisputed flyweight champion and finish the quadrilogy with a 2-1-1 lead.

Before the two title fights, top-ranked welterweight contender Gilbert Burns returned to the cage for the first time since taking on Swedish star Khamzat Chimaev in one of the best fights of 2022. After losing a close decision to Chimaev, Burns now managed to return to the win column in dominating fashion as he submitted Neil Magny with an head and arm choke in the very first round.

The UFC 283 prelims was headlined by a light heavyweight contest where another Brazilian legend made his last walk to the octagon. Former Pride FC and UFC champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua had announced beforehand that this would be the last fight of his career and unfortunately for him, his opponent Ihor Potieria spoiled his retirement party by scoring a first-round TKO finish.

Scandinavian MMA fans also payed close attention to the early prelims as Denmark’s Nicolas Dalby faced off against Warley Alves in a welterweight bout. Dalby, a former Cage Warriors champion, got the win by split decision after three hard-fought rounds.

UFC 283 bonuses

UFC newcomer Ismael Bonfim delivered the event’s most brutal finish as he scored a perfectly-landed flying double knee that rendered his opponent Terrance McKinney completely unconscious. The spectacular knockout win earned Bonfim a $50,000 “Performances of the Night” bonus.

Rising prospect Jailton Almeida was also awarded 50K as his TKO finish over Shamil Abdurakhimov earned him the other performance bonus.

The UFC 283 main event between Jamahal Hill and Glover Teixeira earned “Fight of the Night” honors with both fighters leaving with an extra 50K.
