UFC 291 just took place at the Delta Center i Salt Lake City. In the main event former interim lightweight champions Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje clashed for the vacant BMF title.
The two almost contined where they had left off in their first fight in 2018 – which saw Poirier win via fourth round TKO. The opening round of the rematch was intense and even, but Poirier rocked his opponent with a solid shot, while Gaethje landed punishing leg kicks.
Those leg kicks set up a certain rhythm which Gaethje then broke in the beginning of the second round by going high, knocking Poirier out and winning the BMF title.
In the co-main event Alex Pereira would capture a split decision win over Jan Blachowicz, winning his debut in the division. Bobby Green also finished Tony Ferguson, and Derrick Lewis scored another highlight reel knockout.
