Boxing star Deontay Wilder is in the news for all the wrong reasons as he faces accusations of assault by his fiancée.

According to USA Today, Wilder’s fiancée, Shuntel Swift, has been granted a temporary restraining order after alleging that the heavyweight star physically assaulted her multiple times. Swift accuses Wilder of choking her at least five times and attacking her in front of their children. The couple has a 6-year-old daughter together, and Swift has an 18-year-old from a previous relationship.

Additionally, Swift claims that the former heavyweight champion slammed her son’s head against a car seven years ago. She states that Wilder’s mental state has deteriorated since his recent struggles in the ring.

At the end of 2019, Wilder was undefeated with a professional record of 41-0-1. His only non-win was a draw against Tyson Fury, with the two heavyweights clashing in two highly publicized title bouts in 2020 and 2021. Wilder lost both via TKO/KO. He bounced back with a brutal knockout win against Robert Helenius in 2022 but has since lost two in a row.

In December 2023, he lost a unanimous decision to Joseph Parker, a defeat that cost him a bout against Anthony Joshua. Earlier this month, Wilder suffered a brutal knockout against China’s Zhilei Zhang in the fifth round. According to the report, Deontay Wilder took out his career frustrations on his family.

“Deontay has been more emotionally abusive to me than at any time in the past,” Swift said. “I have been suffering in silence despite Deontay becoming increasingly aggressive and controlling because I did not want him to experience any further mental health struggles.”

Swift, who got engaged to Wilder in 2018, says that he would often yell and cry at home and that she has had enough.

“I asked him to go to therapy, but he refused to try to get help,” she said.
