Devin Haney just putted his lightweight titles and perfect record on the line against boxing standout Vasiliy Lomachenko at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
During 12 rounds of close action, both boxers had momentum and delivered great boxing. Haney started strong but “Loma” ended the fight with a couple of good rounds where he landed a barrage of good punches.
In the end Haney stood as the winner via unanimous decision (116-112, 115-113 & 115-113) to retain his WBC, WBO, IBF and WBA (Super) lightweight titles.
“Lomachenko is a future Hall of Famer. It was a blessing. He was my toughest opponent by far. He is very crafty, and we put on a great fight for the fans,” Haney said post-fight and hinted a move up in weight.
“I’ve been at 135 a long, long time. I’ve been at 135 since I was 16 years old. We’re gonna go back to the lab and figure out what’s next.”
The Ukrainian southpaw, however, had a hard time accepting the tough decision loss.
“I don’t want to talk about the decision. All the people saw what happened today,” Lomachenko said.
“Before, I thought he would be better. He’s a tough fighter. He’s a good fighter. But he’s not a pound-for-pound fighter.”
