Former champion Kamaru Usman reacts to brutal KO-loss

Leon Edwards shook up the world when he defeated pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman at UFC 278. The loss was the second ever for Usman and broke his impressive UFC win streak that included five title defenses against Colby Covington, Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns.

The former champion was transported to the hospital for safety reasons after the brutal knockout, but later dropped a short message on Twitter.

”Champs f$ck up sometimes… but we bounce back and come with vengeance!!,” Usman wrote in a new tweet.

Kamaru Usman was leading the fight

Edwards started very strong in the first round with good striking and a takedown, but the longer the fight went, the more Usman took over. Up to the vicious head kick, ”The Nigerian Nightmare” was clearly winning and had 39-37 on all three judges’ scorecards.

Will get an immediate rematch

At the event’s post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White claimed that Kamaru Usman will get an immediate rematch on Edwards home-turf in England, and the new champion seemed up for a third fight.

”Usman fought with absolute and total confidence all night, the perfect fight,” Dana White said. “He was landing big shots to the body, big shots to the head, elbows, couldn’t had fought a more perfect fight until the last minute.”
