Sweden has a new UFC fighter in Andreas “Bane” Gustafsson (11-2).
The powerful welterweight earned a UFC contract after stopping Pat Pytlik in brutal fashion at Dana White’s Contender Series a few hours ago.
“I can’t describe it in words,” Gustafsson said at the post-fight press conference. “It has not gotten into my brain yet. It’s a relief and just feels good. Now I’m here. What I have been working for my whole life has come true.”
“The next goal is of course my first fight, the UFC debut. I’m looking forward to it. We will see who I’m facing and who it will be. Maybe Oban Elliott.”
After the first round where the pair clinched up, “Bane” kept coming forward in the second round. When he landed a hard elbow to the face, and a couple of big knees to the head, Pytlik was done and the referee stopped the action.
After the fight, Gustafsson had nothing but praise for his opponent.
“I was a bit surprised by his strength. I did think he was that strong, more kind of a striking opponent. He had a good defense against my wrestling, but I had better condition and strength. In the second round I maintained the pace and mauled him. A fucking warrior, I really like that guy. I think I know how he feels about losing a UFC contract. You put everything into this fight and it didn’t go his way. I feel for him, I really do, he’s a great guy.”
The Swede was quite sure Dana White would give him the contract after the brutal stopping in the second round. The UFC CEO called him a “savage and a killer” as he gave him the anticipated contract.
“I was not so worried. How I finished the fight, I think that was the, you know, haven’t I finished the fight like that. It was a boring first round for my side. much wrestling, not so much damage. But in the second round I kept myself going and gave much more damage and got the fight much more interesting with elbow and knees. The second round saved my contract.”

Andreas Gustafsson wants to bring UFC to Sweden
When the debut would take place is not set, however, Andreas Gustafsson really wants to make his first walk to the octagon in his home country.
“Of course it would be fun if UFC would come to Sweden. A lot of Swedes want the UFC to come to here. It’s big for us. We have Alexander Gustafsson, a legend in MMA, now we start to get more Swedes in the UFC. Maybe we can get it back.”
