On September 20, red-hot OKTAGON MMA contender Denis Frimpong will face yet another challenge on his way towards the top. In front of the Frankfurt crowd, he’s looking to extend his impressive run and edge closer to the top of the division.
Denis Frimpong promises to be back with a bang!
The exciting OKTAGON fighter is set to square off against seasoned promotional veteran Peter Gabal in a heated clash that has “Fight of the Night” written all over it.
Gabal is far from a pushover, but “The Menace” has no doubts heading into their September 20 clash.
”He does have a few finishes and a good winning streak, but I think my winning streak is a bit longer than his, Frimpong tells Frontkick in an exclusive interview. ”I fought better opponents than he fought, and I’ve beat better guys than he’s beaten. I’ve been more active than him over the last few years. As a fighter, he’s weak-minded. You know, he lost to Roman Paulus and then took a couple of years off from the sport. He’s got one foot in, one foot out. He’s just not as dedicated as I am.”
”Style-wise, I think the match is going to play out like most of my fights. I’m going to piece him up from the outside. He’s going to shoot; he might get one takedown, but I will get back up, and then he will break. In round two or three, I will finish him.”
”I wanted a little tune-up before facing Gökhan Aksu”
With this latest victory, against the dangerous Arijan Topallaj, Frimpong not only cemented his status as a serious contender in the lightweight division, but also proved that he belongs at the top of the biggest cards in OKTAGON MMA.
After the win, he wanted to return for another fight in September — and that’s exactly what he did.
Was Peter Gabal the matchup you wanted, or were you targeting someone from the rankings?
”I didn’t really care who it was. To be honest, after the Munich card, Peter Gabal fought on the same card and we saw each other in the back and I told him he’s next if he wants it. Once I got ranked I was already sort of beefing with Gabal so at that point I didn’t really want to fight with him anymore. I wanted to fight forward, not backwards, but the beef has already been started so now we need to settle that before I start to look at other ranked opponents.”
Frimpong has his eyes set on facing No. 5 ranked Gökhan Aksu next, aiming to move closer to the top of the division and a potential title shot.
”Timeline-wise, Gökhan didn’t want to fight until November in Munich, so I asked for a tune-up fight. I had just had my son and taken a bit of time off after he was born, so I wanted a little tune-up before facing Gökhan.”

Denis Frimpong vows to end Gabal’s career
With a goal to end Gabal’s run in OKTAGON MMA, Denis Frimpong looks to be in top condition come September 20. At this point he’s already quite deep into fight camp.
What does a normal training week look like for you?
”I train Monday to Saturday and have Sundays off, the universal day off for any fighters. Two or three sessions a day depanding on the day and how hard the sessions are. Usually one of two training sessions a week. Lots of sprints, lots of cardio. Two to three strenght and conditioning sessions a week and loads of mobility and flexibility sessions on the weeks as well.”
”I’ve put a lot of time and effort into this camp and into my career so far, so I’m looking forward to showcasing those skills on September 20, putting a beating on Peter Gabal, and ending his OKTAGON career.”
