Mario Araujo Superior Challenge 29

Mário Araújo steps in on short notice for a high-stakes showdown with Sakhi ”Machete” Qambari at Superior Challenge 29.

The Brazilian finisher arrives in Stockholm with momentum from Jungle Fight and aims to make an immediate impact in the featherweight division.

Sakhi ”Machete” Qambari enters the Superior Challenge cage as one of Sweden’s most exciting names, with viral finishes, title wins, and a fan-favorite intensity that has made him a rising star.

But Mário Araújo is no ordinary fighter.

The 5-2 Brazilian is a BJJ black belt, a proven finisher, and a product of one of São Paulo’s most respected teams.

Araújo has won two of his last three bouts and most recently dominated a top contender in Jungle Fight.

His team shares roots with UFC veterans such as Viviane Pereira, who is also competing at Superior Challenge 29, and he has even had global superstar Alex Pereira in his corner earlier in his career.

Mário Araújo: From capoeira kid to MMA professional

Mário Araújo discovered martial arts early, but his true commitment began in adulthood.

”I trained capoeira as a kid but never took it seriously. When I saw Anderson Silva’s success, I decided to become an MMA fighter at 21 years of age,” he tells Frontkick.

He credits his development to the people around him.

”My biggest influence has always been my teammates.”

Although many view his team primarily as grapplers, Araújo explains that the reality is more complete.

”Our team is strong everywhere. Its origins are actually striking, and because MMA requires strategy, we shape our style to be complete in every area.”

Araújo enters Superior Challenge with strong momentum and aims to stun the Swedish crowd.

”My last fight was against one of the best athletes in Jungle Fight, and I dominated him standing and on the ground. My evolution in all areas is visible. I am truly getting better every day.”

Stepping in on short notice was never a hesitation for him, even against a well-known and vicious fighter like ”Machete”.

”I am happy to fight in a beautiful country like Sweden. I accepted the fight instantly because I always train hard.”

”I am ready to fight anywhere on the planet and even outside of it,” he says with a smile.

Mário Araújo expects an intense stylistic clash in Stockholm.

But even though Sakhi Qambari brings an aggressive style with unorthodox angles and dangerous submissions, Araújo believes he has the tools to catch the Swedish star off guard.

”He is a striker with a good level of grappling, so I expect a stand-up fight. I will look to surprise him during the fight.”

One interesting element of Araújo’s story is his connection to global superstar Alex Pereira.

”Alex has always been a great friend,” Araújo says. ”Whenever he comes to Brazil, he visits our gym in São Paulo. I am very happy to see him dominating the fight world. He is fantastic.”

The relationship is both personal and motivational.

Seeing Pereira rise to global superstardom through discipline and technical mastery has reinforced Araújo’s belief in long term growth and consistent training.

For Araújo, the path ahead is straightforward.

”My biggest goal right now is to become Superior Challenge champion. I believe a win will take me to a title shot.”

He sees Superior Challenge as the gateway to Europe’s top circuits and an international platform to establish himself outside Brazil.

A victory over a rising star like Machete could dramatically accelerate his path.

With the stakes higher than ever, Mário Araújo plans to seize the moment on the 29th of November in Stockholm, Sweden.
