UFC middleweight champion and promotional superstar Israel ”The Last Stylebender” Adesanya has been scheduled to face South African rival Dircus Du Plessis but now it seems that the reigning titel holder will face Sean Strickland instead!

Adesanyas next titel defense is set for UFC 293 in Sydney, Australia on September tenth. However, based on a video posted by Adesanya, Du Plessis seems to be out of the fight due to an injury. ”The Last Stylebender” has thereby passed the opportunity to Strickland – who Adesanya exchanged words with at the press conference leading up to UFC 276 last year.

As of now the UFC have not formally confirmed any of Adesanyas statements.

Adesanya most recently regained the middleweight title after a second round knockout win over arch rival Alex Pereira. In doing so Adesanya was not only crowned undisputed champ once again, but he also avenged his only ever knockout losses across combat sports, as well as only loss in the UFC middleweight division.

With a 24-2 pro record Adesanya will have the odds in his favour going forward against middleweight contenders.

Strickland is somewhat of a controversial character, who’s colourful and at times outlandish statements have made headlines across media outlets. Strickland currently holds a 27-5 pro record with two straight wins at middleweight, most recently a TKO victory over Abus Magomedov.
