Last night, world champion Teofimo Lopez fought for the first time since capturing the WBO and The Ring junior welterweight titles in June.
He faced Jamaine Ortiz in a 12-round junior welterweight contest at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
The former lightweight champion Lopez eventually stood as the winner via unanimous decision with 117-111, 115-113 and 115-113 on the scorecards.
In his post-fight interview, Lopez expressed disappointment because Ortiz wouldn’t engage with him.
“Hey, listen, I tried my best to do what I can for the people,” Lopez said. “I even tried to box, going backwards, and Ortiz did not wanna commit.”
“We cannot, for one second, claim these people, these fighters, that don’t wanna come and fight. You go to blood, sweat and tears, the three code of conduct, Sugar Ray Robinson Award. If you ain’t ready for this life, get the fuck out of my sport. I am a champion. I bleed for this, I sweat for this and I cry for this every time.”

Teofimo Lopez won his first world title in December 2019 when he TKO’d Richard Commey to claim the IBF lightweight belt. He then went on to defeat Vasiliy Lomachenko via unanimous decision in 2020.
His only loss came against George Kambosos Jr via split decision back in November 2021. Since then he racked up four straight wins.
