Swedish former WBC world champion Patricia Berghult just returned to the win column as she defeated former WBO lightweight champion Maria Elena Maderna at local Swedish boxing event Fight-Life 11.
A confident Berghult dominated her 47-year-old opponent for two rounds, landing clean and heavy shots to the body and head.
Just before the start of the third round, the Argentinian threw in the towel and the Swedish 28-year-old was declared winner via TKO, and now has a professional record of 16-1.
With the win, the Swedish former world champion is one step closer to a new title bout.
“Maybe I need one more win after this fight, but we’re counting on something big coming up shortly. You have to train all the time and be able to take fights on short notice. If you get the call you have to be ready. I’m always training for the big fights,” Berghult told Frontkick ahead of the fight.
