Welterweight champion Leon Edwards just defended his welterweight strap against long-time rival Kamaru Usman in the massive trilogy bout at UFC 286.
During the fight, the well-rounded champion showed why he’s the best welterweight on the planet, as he landed loads of heavy kicks to the legs and body of his opponent, as well as cracking knees to the head.
Usman fired back with good striking of his own and took the fight to the ground a number of times over the five rounds. However, Edwards was able to fight off the wrestler with his solid takedown defense.
After five intense and even rounds, the champion stood as the winner via majority decision with 48-46, 48-46 and 47-47 on the judges’ scorecards.
After the results were read, Edwards led the crowd in a chant of “Headshot, Dead!”
“Listen to the crowd,” Edwards said in the post-fight interview.
Before leaving the cage, the champion said wants to see what happens at UFC 287 in Miami when his foe Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns will clash.
Justin Gaethje in the co-main event
The anticipated lightweight co-main event lived up to all expectations and more as lightweight heavy-hitters Justin Gaethje and Rafael Fiziev clashed in a striking match that was as crazy as entertaining.
After three rounds of action, Gaethje stood as the winner via majority decision with 29-28, 29-28, 28-28 on the scorecards.
