UFC title challenger and MMA coach charged with misdemeanor battery

Former UFC welterweight title challenger, and MMA coach, Jake Shields faces one charge of misdemeanor battery after a physical altercation with former UFC fighter Mike Jackson. The altercation took place in December at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas.

Parts of the altercation was captured on video and went viral after Shields himself posted it on social media.

The video showed him on top of Jackson throwing punches. See the video in the player below.

Jake Shields could face six months in jail

The altercation between Jackson and Shields began on Twitter with an argument over race and politics. If convicted, Shields could face up to six months in jail and up to a $1,000 fine.

Shields challenged Georges St-Pierre for the UFC Welterweight Championship back in April 2011. He lost the fight via unanimous decision.
