On Saturday April 25, undefeated Swedish pro boxer Costas Nanga (14-0) faces one of the toughest challenges of his career to date.

At Primetime Boxing’s event in Denmark, he will take Dylan Colin (14-2), the number one light heavyweight in France. Colins only losses came against top 15 ranked fighters, and the Swede is more than ready to test his skills against a fighter of his caliber.

”As my promoter put it: Dylan Colin is a respected fighter, people simply don’t want to face him. He’s a dangerous boxer, no doubt about that,” Nanga tells Frontkick. ”The win against Colin will be a statement to the rest of the division. That I’m here and ready for the bigger fights. is exactly where it should be, high and ready. He can give me the kind of fight that makes my heart beat and mind sharp. Where I can fully express myself and my abilities”

”I see him as a way to show my level to the world. A win over him will prove that I belong among the top 15, just like the fighters he previously faced.”

”We’re absolutely on the right track”

To get ready for the important bout, the undefeated Swede prepared with rounds and rounds of quiality sparring with top European boxers.

”The training camp has been good. It’s been a privilege to spar with very skilled partners. I spent a week in Poland sparring with cruiserweight Mateusz Masternak, who is ranked #4 and is a former European champion. We did a lot of sparring, and I also helped him prepare for his latest World Championship fight.”

”I could really compare it to the last time we sparred, and the difference was huge. I was much better this time. Before, I was a good prospect and showed potential, but this time, I showed that I’m a better boxer. I also got good rounds with Jacob Bank. My confidence is on another level right now. Everything is moving forward.”

What role does sparring play in getting ready for a big fight like this?

”All the technique practiced in training is theoretical. It needs to be applied in real, practical situations during sparring to see if it actually works. That’s how you find out if you’re on the right path, but also what you still need to add. Going into this fight, it became clear that the style I want to box with have been tested in sparring, against good opponents, and the approach has been successful. We’re absolutely on the right track.”

Costas Nanga interview: ”The ring doesn’t judge you by your background”

Costas Nanga has a professional record of 14-0, but has so much more fighting experience than his boxing record shows.

Before turning to boxing, the Stockholm fighter had a successful career in Muay Thai, where he gathered tons of experience, fought against the odds, and took on top opponents with hundreds of fights to their names.

”My philosophy is that the ring is the ring,” Costas explains. ”It doesn’t judge you by your background, your skin color, your origin, or your name. It doesn’t care about any of that. The ring cares about what you’ve put in and what you’ve sacrificed, how much you truly want this, and who you are at your core. That’s what the ring cares about.”
