Swedish boxer Agnes Alexiusson is looking to qualify for her second summer Olympics.
The last qualification takes place over ten day in Thailand, at the end of May, and a string of good performances could be the ticket to Paris.
“There are three spots left in the 60 kilo division. I probably need four or five wins in Thailand to make it to the Olympics,” Alexiusson tells Frontkick.
“I’m so excited about Paris. It will be tough to get there and I take nothing for granted, but it’s definitely doable. When I’m in good shape I can beat anyone.”
Agnes Alexiusson: “I was so disappointed after Tokyo”
In a tournament, a boxer must be prepared to take on fighters with very different styles, with little time to prepare. Known as a great counter puncher, the tricky and explosive Alexiusson knows what she does best.
“I want to control the fight, even though I’m a counter boxer. I want to trick my opponent and punish her when she makes mistakes. On this level it’s really the details that makes a difference. Everyone trains so hard and is well prepared.”
Alexiusson represented Sweden in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo back in 2021, but did not make it past the first fight. Her biggest challenge right now is to stay clear of injuries and maintain the shape.
“I visualize it and think forward. This is something I really want. I’ve been training for it since the last Olympics. I was so disappointed after Tokyo.”
