Colby Covington talks division change after third failed title fight

With Saturday’s title fight loss, former welterweight champion Colby Covington is one of eight UFC fighters to be 0-3 in title bouts.

However, at the UFC 296 post-fight press conference, the 35-year-old shut down the question if it’s time to try his luck in a lower weight class.

”I don’t want to be a weight bully. That’s everything I stand against. I’m trying to be the new generation of fighter that just fights at his natural weight. I don’t wanna cut weight. I just wanna feel good when I fight, you know, and not have to get that big advantage,” Covington said.

”I feel like cutting that kind of weight is legal cheating. I don’t want to be a cheater… It’s (lightweight) not something I’m interested in. I wanna fight everybody at my weight, at 170, and prove I’m the best in the world.”

Dana White: Colby Covington looked slow and old

UFC CEO Dana White recently claimed that Covington did not look like himself going into the fight at UFC 296.

“All these guys deal with pressure, but Colby has been in big fights before. This isn’t Colby’s first rodeo, he’s been in big fights. Colby just looked slow and old tonight, in my opinion,” White said. ”“I think he looked slow tonight. He got outwrestled. Leon looked good. He looked fast.”
