Confident Otto Wallin faces-off with Anthony Joshua: ”His time is coming to an end”

The biggest Swedish boxing fight in years is finally set. On December 23, in Saudi Arabia, Swedish heavyweight contender Otto Wallin will face former heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua.

”It feels really good to have this coming up,” Wallin told Talksport. ”I’m just excited about it, coming off a win against (Murat) Gassiev about a month ago in Turkey, so it’s really nice that this is happening now. It’s unbelievable that they put together this card in like a week. I can’t believe it.”

The magnitude of the fight is immense for Swedish boxing as we might have a title contender in Wallin if he wins the massive fight. A fight that took surprisingly short time to pull together, especially for boxing at the highest level.

”I got the call about a week ago, we had a couple of options, but we felt like this was a really good one, makes the most sense,” Wallin said. ”We made the deal in two days I think.”

Fought each other as amateurs

The two top ranked heavyweights clashed a few times as amatures back in the days.

”Those were good fights, close fights, I lost close decisions. But it was a long time ago, we were just starting out. A lot has happened since,” Wallin said.

Joshua’s career came back on track with two-straight comeback wins after losing his titles to Oleksandr Usyk. The upcoming fight is just as important to him as to the Swede.

”I think he’s physically the same but mentally, I think he has too much pressure. It’s gotta be hard being him to be honest, people like to criticize him and he really seems to take that too hard, He’s scared of losing I think,” Wallin said. ”He is fighting more not to lose than to win.”

”His time is coming to an end unfortunately.”
