Aljamain Sterling reveals crazy bet with Sean O’Malley ahead of UFC 292!

Publicerat

This weekend UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling will defend his titel against rival and rising superstar Sean O’Malley.

Heading into the bout Sterling should have the wrestling advantage – at least on paper. Sterling is somewhat dismissive of that notion, however, claiming that he’s not intending to shoot for a taekdown as quick as some may think.

In fact, he recently revealed that he and O’Malley actually have a bet: the first one to go for a takedown will have to pay the other 100 dollars.

“Whoever shoots first pays 100 bucks. So, I do think when I pressure him, he might panic shoot. He might be the one panic-shooting because he might be worried that I’m going to take him down,” Aljamain Sterling said on The MMA Hour. “Or this could be a little trickery. You never know, you never know.”

O’Malley: We know he’s going to shoot”

O’Malley is coming off of a controversial split decision win over former champ Petr Yan. In that bout O’malley was taken down several times, which could be a precedent for Aljamain having an advantage in that department.

O’malley is dismissive of that notion, though, saying that he was surprised by Yans gameplan and has planned accordingly for the bout with Sterling.

“Aljamain beat Petr in their last fight,” O’Malley said in an interview with ESPN. “I looked at the Petr fight. I made a mistake. I did not expect him to wrestle or shoot at all. I train grappling all the time – in camp, we grapple.

“But for this fight, we know he’s going to shoot, so we’ve got to have a game plan around that, whereas the Petr fight, it was more of a kickboxing camp. Wrestler vs. grappler (striker), most people pick the wrestlers – so this fight for sure (is like that).”
