Rising welterweight star Ian Garry just took on veteran Geoff Neal on the main card at UFC 298. The pairing were originally supposed to fight at UFC 292, however, Neal pulled off from the bout a few weeks prior and the Irish fighter went on to fight late replacement Neil Magny.

Both fighters tradid kicks in the start of the close first round. Garry was light on his feet and showed off his creative striking, but Neal was able to clinch up.

In the beginning of the second round Garry threw fast combinations and landed his heavy knee. Neal landed good punches of his own in the last minute of the round. Neal started the third round good but the light footed Garry landed the better shots throughout the round.

After the final bell, Garry stood as the winner via split decision with 30-27, 30-27 and 28-29 on the scorecards.

In the post-fight interview the Irishman called out the former interim champion Colby Covington.

“I want to retire you from the UFC, Colby,” Garry said after the fight.
