ONE Championship contender dead at 27 following car accident

Iuri Lapicus, a two-division fighter and former title challenger in ONE Championship, has passed away.

He was 27 years old.

“The ONE Championship team is heartbroken over the tragic passing of Iuri Lapicus. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones at this difficult time,” ONE Championship said in a statement.

According to MMA Fighting, ONE officials confirmed that his death was due to a car accident.

Iuri Lapicus fought top competition in ONE

The Moldovan-born resident of Italy fought at both lightweight and welterweight for ONE.

In his last fight, he tested himself against Sweden’s Zebaztian Kadestam in a welterweight contest this past August.

During his successful career, he also fought fighters like UFC and Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez, two-division champion Christian Lee, and former ONE champion Marat Gafurov.

Lapicus began his professional MMA career with 14 straight wins, all in all he had a record of 14-2-1.
