Canelo defeats Gennadiy ”GGG” Golovkin – ends feud after trilogy finale

Canelo Alvarez defeated bitter rival Gennadiy ”GGG” Golovkin via a unanimous-decision win in front of a sold out crowd at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Two judges scored the fight 115-113, while the third judge had it 116-112 for Canelo.

With the win, the Mexican superstar remained the undisputed champion as the current holder of the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles.

After the final bell, the rivals had spent no less than 36 rounds together in the ring, and both pugilists shook hands and embraced each other, seemingly to end the bitter feud.

”We gave the fans three good fights,” Canelo said in his post-fight interview. “Thank you for everything.”

”Everybody knows this is high-level class for boxing. Everybody knows this is Canelo. You miss one punch, he can finish the fight. Look at his face, look at my face. We trained well and this shows that we did a very good fight as a result of it,” Golovkin said after the fight.

Canelo and ”GGG” fought controversial fights

Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy ”GGG” Golovkin fought for the first time in September 2017, a controversial draw that Golovkin claimed he won.

The highly anticipated rematch was postponed, and rescheduled for September 2018, due to Canelo tested positive for a banned substance. The second fight ended up with Alvarez as the winner via majority decision.

Golovkin then argued for a third and final fight, but the Mexican was more interested in moving up to heavier weight classes to claim titles at 168 and 175 pounds.
